Kim Hughes’s mother today said she was “unbelievably proud” of her hero son.
Frances Trask, 56, from Aqueduct, in Telford, said she was stunned after hearing the news that her son was to get the George Cross from the Queen.
Today Miss Trask said she could not comprehend how brave he was doing what he did in war zones.
She said: “Kim is special, but they are all special lads. It’s a complete selfless commitment by the soldiers. They are more courageous that we could ever know, through the face of adversity they are fighting for the Queen and country.
