Jane hoping to taste TV success
Friday 19th March 2010, 10:25AM GMT.
Millions of TV viewers will tonight find out whether a Shropshire dinner party queen has been crowned the UK’s best.
Jane Bennett, of Shrewsbury, has made it through to the final of Michael Winner’s Dining Stars and will feature on ITV at 9pm.
She starred in a programme last week in which the fearsome food critic praised her food and awarded it two stars.
Mrs Bennett, who cooks as a hobby and also teaches at Brompton Cookery School, at Atcham, said: “I’ve been sworn to secrecy – I’m not allowed to reveal what happens. Regardless of the outcome, a number of us have been invited to dinner with Michael Winner next week, so we’ll be off to see him then.”
Mrs Bennett did not put herself forward for the TV programme; ITV researchers traced her through the cookery school.
Mrs Bennett said: “I enjoyed the experience. I tried to make sure I wasn’t daunted by it. When Michael Winner came, I also invited a number of my girlie friends and also cooked for them.
“I tried to treat it as I would any other party, I didn’t want to be intimidated or feel uncomfortable.”
Tonight’s ITV broadcast was filmed in Cornwall and features a number of cooks trying to outgun each other in a bid to impress Mr Winner.
The results of the judging are revealed at the conclusion of the programme.
