Cannabis grower gets three years

Friday 19th March 2010, 12:00PM GMT.

A 64-year-old man who grew 100 cannabis plants on land near Telford was today jailed for three years.

Ian Skitt, of Sugden, near Rodington, grew the plants in a locked room and polytunnel next to the caravan he shares with his family, Shrewsbury Crown Court heard today.

He previously admitted dishonestly using electricity, the production of cannabis, a class B drug, and possession of cannabis with intent to supply.

Mr Daniel White, for Skitt, said the defendant never profited from his actions as none of the drugs were sold because a buyer could not be found.

Judge Nicolas Mitchell said Skitt had been running a “commercial enterprise” and sentenced him to three years in prison. He must also pay £1,400 court costs.
