Man died of stab wound, inquest told

A Shrewsbury man died from a stab wound to the chest, an inquest has heard.

Paul Wayne Rugg, 52, was found at his home in Kynaston Road, Harlescott, on January 6 having suffered a number of stab wounds

Mr John Ellery, coroner for North and Mid West Shropshire, opened and adjourned an inquest at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital today.

Detective Sergeant Mark Hill, of Shrewsbury police, said: “We were called to Mr Rugg’s home address on January 6 and found him with multiple stab wounds.

“A 7pm he was pronounced dead at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

“A man has since been charged with Mr Rugg’s murder and the legal proceedings are under way.”

Mr Ellery recorded the cause of death as a stab wound to chest and the inquest was adjourned until criminal proceedings are finished.

Since the death, Wayne Austin, 25, of Claverley Crescent, Harlescott, has been charged with Mr Rugg’s murder.

Another man and a woman have been charged with perverting the course of justice and have been bailed by police to appear at Shrewsbury Magistrates Court on April 1.
