Old boy Riza: I’ve nothing to prove
Thursday 18th March 2010, 12:13PM GMT.
Aldershot forward Omer Riza insists he has nothing to prove to Shrewsbury Town when he goes gunning for his former club on Saturday.
Riza reached an agreement with Town to terminate his contract in January after having limited opportunities this season and only making two first-team starts in total.
He has since linked up with Aldershot until the end of the season and, while he has yet to start a game, he is hoping to play a part when Town visit on Saturday.
“It’s a game I would like to feature in but I don’t feel as though I have a point to prove to Shrewsbury or anyone else,” said Riza.
“I was disappointed I didn’t get more chances at Shrewsbury – but that’s gone now and I just have to concentrate on Aldershot.
“I’ve signed to the end of the season and we will just have to see what happens then.
“I like being involved with clubs who have something to play for, so it should be an interesting end to the season”
Riza is still desperately searching for a regular run of football as he continues to recover from 12-month absence from action following a ban for a contract dispute with Turkish club Trabzonspor.
That meant he was restricted to training for his first four months of his one-year stay at Shrewsbury, before the clearance for him to resume competitive football finally came through last April.
“It was well documented I didn’t play for 12 months and you can’t just turn it on like a tap,” added Riza.
“It’s so hard when you haven’t play games but hopefully I can be involved in the run-in at Aldershot.
“I had a substitute appearance against Burton two weeks ago where I did well and I played 90 minutes for the reserves against Millwall on Tuesday so I’m getting stronger.”
