Boss says Bucks are in need of speed

Thursday 18th March 2010, 11:00AM GMT.

AFC Telford United are aiming to bring in a pacy new recruit – in a bid to sprint towards the Blue Square North play-offs.

The Bucks added Mark Beesley to their squad this week, the 29-year-old striker joining on loan from Cambridge United for the rest of the season.

And assistant manager Larry Chambers today confirmed they are also on the hunt for a wide midfielder to bring a new dimension to their attacking play.

“I just think we need something a little bit different,” said Chambers.

“We could do with somebody with a little bit of pace who can give us a bit more impetus when we’re looking to break teams down.

“We’d like to get somebody in for the Stalybridge game on Saturday but we’ll have to wait and see if that is possible.”

Meanwhile, forward Steve Thompson will be assessed at training tonight to see if he is fit to return to action.

The Sunderland-based 20-year-old has been sidelined with a hamstring injury and has been an unused substitute for the last two games.

“He did a light session on Tuesday and he’ll train tonight,” added Chambers.

“If he comes through okay, he’ll be available for Saturday. It would be like having a new player.”

  • AFC Telford United’s youth team beat Sutton Coldfield 3-1 at the New Bucks Head last night to move within one point of winning the Midland Floodlit Youth League.

Dave Howarth scored twice, with Callum Adams also on target for the Bucks, who are unbeaten all season.
