Digger is used for raid on building
Wednesday 17th March 2010, 12:55PM GMT.
A digger has been used in a ram-raid at a Shropshire industrial estate.
The attempted break-in happened at the industrial unit in Lancaster Road, Shrewsbury, shortly after 7pm yesterday.
Police today issued an appeal for witnesses to the attack, which involved a yellow JCB digger which had been stolen from a Persimmon Homes development in Ditherington Road, Shrewsbury at about 5.30pm yesterday.
Detective Inspector Mick Homden, of West Mercia Police, said the JCB would probably have been driven along Ditherington Road, Mount Pleasant Road and then right into Lancaster Road. Police believe a getaway car was also used in the failed break-in.
He said: “I would appeal for anyone who saw the JCB being driven along that route or a black Audi, which is believed to be the getaway car, being driven from the scene at around 7.15pm probably at speed, to contact Shrewsbury police on 0300 333 3000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
