Cureton has the cure-all

Wednesday 17th March 2010, 1:13PM GMT.

Jamie CuretonStriker Jamie Cureton insists he is not frustrated by the slow start to his Shrewsbury Town career – and believes he will soon hit the goal trail.

The experienced 34-year-old has joined on a three-month emergency loan from Norwich City and arrived at the Prostar Stadium with a reputation as one of the Football League’s most prolific goalscorers.

But he has failed to break his Town duck in four appearances and was part of the side that dropped out of the League Two play-off places after losing 1-0 at home to leaders Rochdale on Saturday.

“Rochdale was my fourth game on the trot so I think by now I’m probably up to speed,” said Cureton.

“Now it’s up to me to take my chances – obviously on Saturday there weren’t any to take.

“I was frustrated that there were a couple I should have taken in the Bournemouth game, but at some point they’re going to start going in.

“I’m not one to get too frustrated. Once the one goes in, then I’m sure there will be a few more to come.”

The former Reading hitman is also backing Shrewsbury to get back to winning ways and reclaim their place in the League Two play-off positions after dropping out of the top seven as a result of Saturday’s sorry defeat to Rochdale.

And they remain under pressure from the chasing pack, with Accrington Stanley beating Rotherham last night to put their name squarely in the frame.

But Cureton is confident that Town can pick up enough points between now and the end of the season to ensure they are in the play-off mix.

“There’s still enough games to go and we’re confident we can get back up there,” he said.

“It is disappointing when you look at the table and suddenly you’re not in the play-off places, but there’s 10 games to go. We need to put our performances right and kick on.”

does anyone else feel as though our season died last weekend? how can it be that Northampton, Accrington and even Port Vale have built up momentum when we are going south? Is it just that we don’t score enough goals? Will any Town manager ever solve this without forking out £170,000+???

I wouldnt say our season died last weekend as we are only out of the playoffs on goal difference.

Look at it this way a win sat and a defeat or draw for the cobblers and we are back in there.

    UP THE SHREWS!!!

I’ve lost count of the amount of decent strikers who saw their careers go backward at Shrewsbury. Even Holt needed lots of penalties to keep up his tally.

We have got to get the supply line sorted out first. Let’s look at Rochdale and learn.

Rochdale were a good side but we still had the best two chances of the game ,its been the same most of the season ,we do not put enough of our chances away and the manager is not to blame for that.

i do wish all members of the squad will do their talking on the pitch, generally with the noted exception of soon to be fit again hibbert, our strike force has been woeful. i do not doubt their skills up front and they cannot perform if their is no service from the back or apparant non exixtance of left and right wings.
strikers rely on accurate passes, crosses and flicks. if this were to happen, our strike force would seem like goal poachers and not the present lemons up front waiting for something to happen. floreat salopia and change that ruddy shirt badge please to 3 loggerheads and a floreat salopia. tow will never win anything without that badge
