West Mid licence will limit musical events
Tuesday 16th March 2010, 10:16AM GMT.

Shropshire’s West Mid Showground will be restricted to a maximum of 10 music events a year if a new licence gets the go-ahead.
Hopes of staging a revamped West Mid Show this summer have moved a step closer after bosses applied for a new premises licence. The previous agreement for the Berwick Road Showground in Shrewsbury, where the 120-year-old event is held, has lapsed following the financial problems which hit organisers last year.
But Shropshire Council members will meet next week to discuss a new licence which could save the show and see a return for a number of events.
The application has received nine representations from residents who have raised fears about noise disturbance.
However, organisers have put forward a number of measures to prevent public nuisance and crime, ensure safety and protect children from harm.
These include a restriction on the number of outdoor music events, a maximum occupancy of 360 for the members’ pavilion and the use of SIA registered stewards for all major events.
Noise levels will also be monitored and outdoor events would finish by 11.30pm.
A report to the Central licensing sub-committee, which meets on Monday, states: “Shropshire and West Midlands Agricultural Society Ltd has made an application for a premises licence.
“The premises had previously been granted a licence, but in December 2009, that licence lapsed in accordance with the Licensing Act 2003 due to the company being insolvent on the approval of a voluntary arrangement proposed by the directors.”
A rescue plan has been put together to try and save the show, with hopes that a revamped event can still take place this summer.
The rescue plan includes a legal deal to repay nearly £165,000 to more than 70 creditors of the West Mid Show over the next eight years.
Creditors will be asked to back a company voluntary arrangement at a meeting on March 23.
