Calls for talks on recycling tip plans
Tuesday 16th March 2010, 8:00PM GMT.
A call has been made for a public meeting to discuss plans for a controversial new waste tip on the outskirts of Bridgnorth.
Shropshire councillors want residents to be consulted before a go-ahead is given to plans from Veolia Environmental Services for the unit in Faraday Drive.
The scheme would bring together the firm’s transport depot, situated in Stanley Lane, and the Barnsley Lane recycling centre.
The new integrated facility would provide recycling facilities for over 20 different types of materials.
In addition, a waste transfer facility at the proposed site would enable recyclable materials to be collected at the kerbside – a necessary requirement for the introduction of the town’s kerbside plastic bottle collection scheduled for March 2011.
Councillor Christian Lea said: “There are many residents who have concerns about a waste management facility being developed so close to their homes.
“I am calling for Shropshire Council and Veolia to hold an exhibition outlining the proposed plans, together with a public meeting.”
Donald Macphail, for Veolia Shropshire, said: “This important development is part of our integrated waste strategy for Shropshire.
“In addition to this, by relocating the transport depot from Stanley Lane to the new site, waste trucks would no longer need to travel through the town each morning when leaving the depot.”

we are very concerned about the proposed siting of a ‘recycling’ unit in Faraday drive. This is VERY close to the residential area of Lodge Farm Estate and will have a detrimental effect upon it, i.e. fumes, noise, extra traffic, possibly vermin and pollution.

@ J M PRIEST – No it will not, or the Environment Agency would not give it an operators licence
