Paul Simpson described Shrewsbury’s game against Rochdale as “probably one of the toughest afternoons that we’ve had”, and admitted that the team deserved a victory bigger than 1-0.

Simpson added: “We didn’t create nowhere near as many chances as we should have and we got what we deserved out of the game, simple as that.”

Adding to Simpson’s troubles was the red carding of Shane Cansdell-Sherriff.

He was sent off at the start of the second half for pulling back Chris Dagnall.

Said Simpson: “We couldn’t actually cope with their movement when they we had 11 men so we had no chance with 10 men.”
