Shrews again named family club of year
Monday 15th March 2010, 6:00PM GMT.
Shrewsbury Town Football Club has been named as the best in the league for the experience it provides for young fans and families – for the second year in a row.
The club won the E.ON Family Club of the Year award for League 2 at the 2010 Football League Awards in London last night.
Town received the award at a gala dinner at Grosvenor House, Park Lane, in front of 900 people from clubs, sponsors and the football industry.
Jon Harris, general manager of the club, said: “To win it last year was a fantastic experience. It was a combination of all the hard work we put in to try to ensure that three years down the line into a new stadium we are making everybody’s match day experience a better one.
“We made a commitment at the start of the season that we would continue to strive to achieve that. It was great to get a nomination again but to come away and be nam-ed as League 2 club of the year for the family award again was absolutely fantastic.”
E.ON said the club was selected as it “actively” encouraged family attendance at the Prostar Stadium with an adult ticket and two under-11s costing only £17.
It said it was also “very apparent” that staff were heavily involved with helping to create a family-friendly atmosphere on match days and the club’s mascot engaged with fans “really well”.
