County feast is a winner

Shropshire’s Jane Bennett bowled over Michael Winner – Britain’s toughest food critic – to win two of his coveted Dining Stars.
Viewers saw Jane prepare a three-course feast for the Mr Nasty of British Food on primetime television last night.
She admitted she was honoured as Mr Winner gave his verdict of the evening he had spent at her home in Shrewsbury, describing Jane as a “seriously good cook”.
The critic said Jane’s food was excellent, although he did question the lack of any cutlery with her starter, a pesto and quail’s egg bruschetta.
And he certainly didn’t go easy on Jane, calling her just hours before the meal to say he hated pesto, forcing a last-minute menu change for him.
But Jane remained calm in the face of such a tricky guest and, despite serving the dessert wine with the starter by accident, she managed to take home two stars – the highest awarded so far.
