Woman sexually assaulted in town centre
Friday 12th March 2010, 10:40AM GMT.
Police today appealed for witnesses after a 19-year-old woman was allegedly sexually assaulted in a Powys town centre.
The incident is alleged to have taken place in Llandrindod Wells between 4am and 5am on Wednesday in an area of the town known as The Green.
Police said today that a 27-year-old man, from the Llandrindod Wells area, had been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and remained in custody today for questioning.
Sharon Reynolds, communications officer for Dyfed-Powys Police, appealed for witnesses to come forward.
She said: “Police are still appealing for information regarding the incident and would especially like to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity at the time or anyone who knows of someone who was in the vicinity at the time.
“We would also like to speak to anyone who has information which could help the police investigation.”
She said police had now increased patrols in the area in a bid to reassure residents.
“We would also like to re-assure the public that instances of this type are rare but, in order to provide reassurance to the public and to secure more information, increased patrols will be in the area,” she said.
Anybody with any information about the alleged incident is asked to telephone Dyfed-Powys Police on 101.
