Town urged to make up for mauling by leaders
Thursday 11th March 2010, 1:41PM GMT.
Skipper Graham Coughlan today demanded Shrewsbury Town right the wrongs of their Rochdale horror show as the countdown begins to the visit of the League Two leaders.
Town were comprehensively beaten 4-0 by the table-toppers at Spotland in the final game before Christmas.
And Coughlan admits those memories still linger as his team prepare for the return clash against Keith Hill’s side on Saturday, for which a 6,000-plus crowd is expected.
It promises to be a big occasion for Shrewsbury, whose officials today confirmed striker Jake Robinson will be available for the clash – despite being sent off in the 0-0 reserve team draw against Port Vale at the Prostar Stadium yesterday.
“There are three different strands to Saturday and the game shouldn’t need much building up,” said Coughlan.
“We need to bounce back from the Grimsby defeat, there’s the fact the League leaders are in town and also that they stuffed us at their place in December.
“That was a bad day – we let ourselves down, we let the club down and we let the manager down against his former club.
“He didn’t deserve that because he’s a good guy and hopefully we can get the result for him on Saturday.
“But it’s okay talking about it. We have to go out there and do it. We have to stand up and deliver because if we go under on Saturday, we will get turned over.”
Robinson received his marching orders yesterday for two bookable offences on an afternoon when Vale were also reduced to 10 men.
But secretary Jon Harris today confirmed Robinson will receive a one-match ban, which only applies to reserve team football.
- Town supporters have the chance to quiz manager Paul Simpson in a question and answer session hosted by the Official Supporters Club tonight. The event starts at 7.30pm in the Sovereign Suite.
