Grieving family in organs plea
Thursday 11th March 2010, 10:11AM GMT.
A Shropshire couple today urged people to consider organ donation after agreeing to donate their beloved son’s heart as they said their final goodbyes to him.
Steven Early, 36, was found collapsed at home and rushed to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital where he died.
He didn’t carry a donor card but when doctors confirmed all hope was lost for him and machines were keeping him alive his parents Patrick and Jean Early, of Cross Houses near Shrewsbury, asked if in death he could help others.
The courageous decision was taken together with Steven’s two sisters and his brother. The family today called on people to understand the great need to act quickly even in the most distressing of circumstances.
Steven’s sister Jacqui Bolton said: “It is often up to the family to face that decision and have the courage to go forward with it because it can do so much good.
“It is the most awful situation to be in but we would urge families in similar circumstances to think about organ donation because it can bring some small comfort in your loss and save so many other lives.”
