Financial battle is not for Telford
Thursday 11th March 2010, 1:43PM GMT.
AFC Telford United are refusing to break the bank in their bid to strengthen their Blue Square North play-off chasing squad.
Assistant manager Larry Chambers has made no secret of his desire to bring in an extra forward and a wide midfielder ahead of this Saturday’s trip to Hyde.
But the search has so far drawn a blank, and the straight-talking No 2 has insisted he will not be drawn into paying exorbitant signing-on fees.
Chambers says funds are available for reinforcements, but he is eager to make sure he gets value for money rather than being drawn into panic signings.
“We have been working tirelessly to bring people in, but we are not going to give in to players’ inflated wage demands and signing-on fees,” said Chambers.
“There are clubs who have previously said they are struggling who are now paying signing-on fees, and we don’t want to entertain that too often.
“We’ll continue to work away at it, and we are already pursuing other avenues.
“We haven’t given up on getting someone in for this weekend and we’ve still got other irons in the fire.”
Meanwhile, midfielder Danny Edwards has completed a second month on loan at Zamaretto League side Halesowen Town.
The Newport-based wide man, who has made just three league starts for Telford this season, could stay with the Birmingham side for a third month if agreement is reached between the two clubs.
The Bucks go into the game sitting seventh in the table, though they would jump one place if, as expected, Farsley Celtic’s playing record is expunged.
The troubled club were disbanded yesterday.
