Bragg to star at festival

Melvyn BraggAcclaimed broadcaster Melvyn Bragg has been announced as one of the stars at a south Shropshire arts festival this year.

Bragg, who has been writer, editor and presenter of the South Bank Show for London Weekend Television (LWT) since 1978, will be at Ludlow Assembly Rooms in July.

A prolific novelist, he is also the author of a number of television scripts and film screenplays, including Jesus Christ Superstar in 1973 with Norman Jewison, Isadora, and Clouds of Glory with Ken Russell.

Other top attractions for the festival include an audience with poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy, an evening with broadcaster Jenni Murray OBE, long-standing presenter of Women’s Hour, and a gig by Edinburgh fringe regular, comic Arthur Smith, who has also appeared on Grumpy Old Men.
