Chemical concerns see town pool shut
Wednesday 10th March 2010, 9:17AM GMT.
Council chiefs were forced to close a Shropshire swimming pool after concerns about chemical levels in the water.
Swimmers were turned away from the pool at Madeley Court Sports Centre, in Court Street, Madeley, Telford, yesterday afternoon and evening after being told there was a problem with the levels.
Some of the water had to be drained out of the pool while maintenance work was carried out in order to ensure the chemicals were balanced.
The pool was open again today at 7am for early morning swimmers.
Telford & Wrekin Council spokeswoman Catherine Roche today insisted it was business as usual at the swimming pool.
Miss Roche said: “The pool was open as normal this morning for the early morning swim.
“There was something wrong with the pH levels and we had to check the plant system, which meant lowering the water levels in the pool.
“Because of that it was not suitable for swimming but the problem has been resolved now and it is very much business as usual.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.”
Other facilities at the leisure centre were unaffected by yesterday’s pool closure.
