MP says hospital trust in need of a Salopian

daniel-kawczynski-topA Shrewsbury MP is calling on Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust to employ a Salopian as their next chief executive.

Daniel Kawczynski, MP for Shrewsbury and Atcham, has written to Dr John Davies, chairman of Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust, about the replacement of Tom Taylor, who announced last month he is stepping down.

Mr Kawczynski said someone with “knowledge of the area” should take up the post as they would be best placed to relate to residents.

He said: “I have written to ask what the policy will be for choosing the next chief executive for the hospital trust.

“I’m very keen that they are appointed as quickly as possible as I don’t want a long period of time where we don’t know who is going to take over. I’m keen for someone to tell us the selection process so they can ensure someone who will be even-handed between Shrewsbury and Telford.”

Mr Taylor has been chief executive of the body which runs the Royal Shrewsbury and Telford’s Princess Royal since 2005.

Mr Kawczynski’s letter to Mr Davies states: “I would very much like to see a Salopian or someone with extensive knowledge of our area take the position, in order that they will be able to best relate to my constituents that they will be serving.”

John Davies, Trust chairman, today said they were “well advanced” with the recruitment process.

Of course Daniel is himself a Salopian Oh wait maybe not.
    From his own Website

Daniel was brought up in Surrey, before going to Stirling University to study Business Studies,He then worked in telecommunications for ten years as an international account manager, travelling extensively in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

So its ok for 1 outsider but not another.

Presumably Ron would favour the alternative, someone with no knowledge of the area?

Surely the idea is a nonsense anyway. The person appointed should be appointed according to their ability to do the job and nothing else.

This is the sort of soundbyte politics that seems to be increasingly popular, not least with the Tories. Jump on a bandwagon and suggest something that sounds popular but most of the time isn’t in the least bit sensible at all.

Whoever takes the job – whether or not they came from the area – would have to do whatever was necessary. Their relationship to the area itself wouldn’t really be all that important. Otherwise Mr Kawczynski wouldn’t be that relevant either would he?

The thing is, Jeepers, this hasn’t happened. Certainly not in recent years.
