Festival director eyes big turnout
Tuesday 9th March 2010, 7:40AM GMT.
Organisers of this year’s Royal Welsh Smallholder and Garden Festival are hoping to attract more than 25,000 visitors.
The event takes place at the Royal Welsh Showground in Llanelwedd, Builth Wells, on May 15 and 16.
Festival director Fred Slater said he hoped people would turn out in force.
He said: “It will be entertaining and educational and a breath of country air for visitors.
“This will be the 10th smallholder and garden festival to be staged in Llanelwedd and it will have a larger and more varied programme than ever.
“Attendances have climbed to more than 25,000 in recent years but we’re hoping to top that.”
This year, the festival is open from 9am to 6pm each day and there will be a full programme of entertainment throughout the weekend including special attractions for children.
Spring highlights will include a scurry driving competition and blacksmith and farrier competitions – part of a programme of demonstrations organised by the Welsh Farriers and Blacksmiths Association.
A new spring poultry show will also be introduced in partnership with the Poultry Club of Wales.
The main ring attractions will include dog agility displays, a falconry demonstration, a parade of vintage machinery and sheepdog demonstrations.
Admission is £10 for adults and £5 for children.
Family one-day tickets for two adults and up to four children, cost £25.
