Farsley woes could aid Bucks
Tuesday 9th March 2010, 1:00PM GMT.
AFC Telford United’s play-off prospects look set to be boosted today – with crisis club Farsley Celtic facing expulsion from the Blue Square North.
The Conference Board were meeting this afternoon to discuss the plight of the Yorkshire outfit, who have been charged with a third count of failing to fulfil a fixture after calling off tonight’s trip to Harrogate.
Farsley’s administrator called off last week’s game at Telford and Saturday’s scheduled home fixture with Workington, as well as turning down a series of offers from the one consortium interested in buying the club.
And should the club be booted out of the league, Telford – who lost 3-1 at Farsley – would close in on several sides above them, who stand to lose up to six points.
“Chester were kicked out (of the Blue Square Premier) for missing two games so the precedent is there,” said Bucks chairman Lee Carter.
“It looks highly inevitable that Farsley will be heading the same way now, but it’s not good for football.
“Football is reacting to these situations at the moment, and it has got to get into the situation of being proactive, because there are things the authorities can do.
“For a club like Farsley to reportedly be around £750,000 in debt when they are dragging 200 people through the game is ridiculous.”
Meanwhile, Telford’s assistant manager Larry Chambers revealed that he was hoping to complete two signings before Saturday’s trip to Hyde.
“We’re looking to bring one, possibly two players in before the weekend,” Chambers confirmed.
l Ex-Arsenal, Aston Villa and England star Paul Merson will be the guest speaker at AFC Telford’s sportsman’s dinner on Tuesday, May 18. Contact Anton Gunter on 01952-567546 or 07500-888739.
