Fence sparks row as ‘drives blocked’

A row has broken out over a patch of land in Telford which residents say has been fenced off leaving them unable to access their driveways.

Mary Bushnall bought the land, at the back of Third Avenue in Ketley Bank, from Telford & Wrekin Council in 2008 for £12,000 and last week put up a six-foot fence and gates. Several residents there now claim they can no longer park on their driveways or drive up to their back gardens.

Council chiefs are now trying to buy the land back off Mrs Bushnall for the same price, plus legal fees, to try to resolve the situation.

Peter Howells, solicitor for Mrs Bushnall, laid the blame with Telford & Wrekin Council, which he said never secured any rights for the residents before the land was sold.
