Rush to buy tickets for V

Tickets for this summer’s V Festival went on sale today. The event will see Cheryl Cole’s festival debut as a soloist.

Rockers Kasabian and Kings of Leon are also headline acts at the music event taking place at Weston Park at Weston-under-Lizard, near Shifnal, on August 21 and 22.

Thousands of people were today jamming phone lines and websites in a bid to secure tickets for the event, which is also taking place at a second site at Chelmsford in Essex.

The band Doves and chart-stopping star Calvin Harris were added to the line-up yesterday.

The event is now in its 15th year and Cole’s first solo festival performance is expected to be one of the highlights.

Her band Girls Aloud performed at the festival two years ago.

Ellie Goulding of Kington, near Leominster, will also make an appearance at the Virgin Media-sponsored event.

The former pupil of Lady Hawkins School will play songs from her newly-released debut album, Lights, which has dazzled critics and made her one of the fastest-rising pop stars in the UK.

The Prodigy, Sugababes, Pet Shop Boys, Stereophonics, Paul Weller, Paulo Nutini and Madness are amongst the other acts lined up for the festival.
