Pair to reopen pub in county

Friday 5th March 2010, 10:29AM GMT.

A north Shropshire pub which has been closed for nearly 18 months looks set to open its doors again in time for Easter while another popular venue has been put up for sale.

The Olde Jack Inn at Calverhall, near Whitchurch, has been up for sale since May last year with a price tag of £250,000.

It has now been bought by husband and wife team Linda and Ken Roberts from Buerton, near Woore, who are carrying out a revamp with the aim of relaunching the pub and restaurant in time for the Easter weekend.

It comes as the Stormy Petrel pub, at Tern Hill near Market Drayton, has been put up for sale with a price tag of £325,000. The pub, popular with bikers, went up for sale this week.

Today Mrs Roberts, the new owner of The Olde Jack Inn, said they were delighted to have taken over the pub which will be a family venture.

They hope the main bar and pub food will be up and running in time for Good Friday and the restaurant/function room will be open soon after.

She said: “It’s been shut for about 12 to 18 months so it needs revamping completely.”

Paul Wynn, Shropshire councillor for the Prees area, today welcomed the news.

Estate Agents Sidney Phillips also confirmed today that the Stormy Petrel is now up for sale. The pub, by the Clive Barracks at Tern Hill, is currently being run by a tenant.
