Bucks take late check on O’Connor

Friday 5th March 2010, 11:13AM GMT.

Kevin O'connorAssistant manager Larry Chambers admits it will be a “big blow” if midfielder Kevin O’Connor is ruled out of tomorrow’s crunch clash with Solihull Moors.

The 24-year-old was taken off during Tuesday’s 4-0 friendly victory over his former club Wolves, suffering with tight hamstrings.

He was unable to join in with the rest of the squad in last night’s training session and will face a late fitness test before a decision is taken on whether he can feature at the New Bucks Head.

“We’ve tried to bring him along slowly, but in the last two weeks he’s played more football than he had in the previous year,” said Chambers.

“He’s got a professional attitude and he knew straight away his hamstrings were feeling a bit tight on Tuesday so we took him straight off.

“We’re hopeful he’ll play tomorrow – if he doesn’t it will be a big blow to us.”

Tomorrow’s clash promises to be a tough one, with Solihull arriving in Shropshire on the back of a five-game winning streak.

Their former Leeds and Hereford forward Simon Johnson has been in prolific form, and Chambers is aware of the task in hand.

Telford are eager to start picking up points to boost their Blue Square North play-off push after suffering back-to-back defeats at Northwich and Blyth Spartans.

“We’re meeting them when they’re having a real purple patch,” said Chambers.

“They’re scoring goals and keeping clean sheets.”

Winger Sean Evans is available tomorrow, but will miss next week’s trip to Hyde as he starts a four-game ban after his red card at Blyth last Saturday.

Evans gets a mandatory three-game suspension, with another game added on because he was also dismissed while playing for Stourbridge earlier in the season.
