Wolves goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey has broken his silence on his Premier League exile and pledged to work hard in his battle to regain a first-team place, writes TIM NASH.

The 23-year-old was back in action for Wales last night, giving him a rare chance to push his claims after more than three months without league action for Wolves.

But the former young star of Molineux promised to bide his time and wait for another chance at club level.

He said: “I just have to keep my head down, keep on training well and we will see what happens. Who knows what will happen?

“I haven’t been getting action with Wolves, which has been difficult, but the gaffer gave me half a game last night, so it was my chance to try to show something.”

Hennessey’s exile from Mick McCarthy’s Wolves side has also seen him lose his international No 1 jersey to Boaz Myhill, with the Hull goalkeeper starting Wales’ 1-0 friendly defeat against Sweden at Swansea’s Liberty Stadium last night.

But the Wolves man replaced Myhill at half-time and did not concede during his 45-minute outing, making one smart diving save late on.

He said: “It was nice to be back in action. We were 1-0 down and it’s hard to go into a game like that but then again it was a good piece of action for me.”

Hennessey’s last Premier League action came in the 4-0 December defeat at Chelsea, before being dropped in favour of Marcus Hahnemann.

But the deposed goalkeeper has offered his support to the big America, despite hinting at his disappointment at being stranded on the sidelines.

He said: “I don’t know the reasons for my exclusion but Hahnemann is doing well and he will get ‘all the best’ from me.

“I will just try to get my chance and when I do get it I will try to take it.”
