Grim run not concern, warns Kelvin

Defender Kelvin Langmead has urged Shrewsbury Town to ignore Grimsby’s miserable run as they aim to keep their promotion bandwagon rolling.
Town face a potential banana skin on Saturday as they travel to face the Mariners who have gone 25 games without a win in League Two, dating back to a 2-0 victory at Torquay on September 19.
That miserable run has thrown their Football League future into jeopardy, but Langmead is determined to concentrate solely on Shrewsbury’s recent run and performances.
“We can’t worry about what Grimsby have or haven’t done,” said Town’s longest serving player.
“Whether we were going to Rochdale or Grimsby this weekend, it wouldn’t matter – we would want to win the game.
“We have got ourselves into a good position and we are confident so it’s important we keep the momentum going.
“There is going to be a lot of ups and downs over the next six or eight weeks for all the teams up there, but we feel we are in a position where automatic (promotion) is a real possibility.”
Langmead, now in his sixth year at Shrewsbury, believes the current Town squad is the strongest he has seen during his time at the club.
“We had a strong squad last season but we had some big individuals in there,” said the 24-year-old.
“A lot was made of us losing Grant Holt but the squad as a whole has stepped up to the plate.
“Dave Hibbert has been fantastic and elsewhere in the team we have chipped in with more goals than we did last season.”
