Chambers hails striker – and big honour for Bucks

andy-brownStriker Andy Brown’s prolific goalscoring for AFC Telford United has seen him named as the Blue Square North player of the month for February.

Brown bagged five goals in seven games to take his season’s total to 14 and his overall club tally to 34 – making him AFC Telford’s record all-time goalscorer.

And the 24-year-old displayed further proof of his talent as he scored twice against a strong Wolves Reserves team in a 4-0 friendly win on Tuesday evening.

“This award is a massive honour for the club and for Andy,” said assistant manager Larry Chambers.

“He’s not actually had the best of seasons, but he’s come into some form in the last few weeks and it’s no coincidence that we went five games unbeaten at the same time.

“He had a change in lifestyle over the summer because he finished his teaching degree and it’s the first time he’s had a proper job.

“At times he’s found it hard getting the balance right between work and playing non-League football, but he’s come to terms with it now.

“Everybody likes praise and seeing their feats get acknowledged so this is a nice boost for Andy and it will give everybody else at the club a lift as well,” he added. “Andy is the first one to recognise that he needs his team-mates to set the chances up for him.”

Meanwhile, crisis club Farsley Celtic have been charged by the Football Conference for failing to fulfil their fixture with AFC Telford.

The two sides were due to meet at the New Bucks Head on Tuesday evening, but the game was called off after Farsley’s administrator rejected an offer from the only consortium interested in buying the club.

The Yorkshire side are believed to have debts of around £750,000 and could be expelled from the Blue Square North.
