Celebrities have pedalled their way through Shropshire in their bid to raise £1 million for the Sport Relief charity in a non-stop relay ride.

The seven-strong team of cyclists, including comedian Jimmy Carr and presenter Patrick Kielty arrived in the county yesterday afternoon taking in a variety of rural roads as they headed towards Cornwall.

Their journey took them through picturesque Shropshire scenery as they travelled south past Baschurch, and around villages and small communities on the outskirts of Shrewsbury before travelling through lanes parallel to the A49.

They then joined the busy main road briefly as they closed in on Ludlow before continuing south through Herefordshire.

But there was disappointment for some in Ludlow, who gathered at the town’s Tesco store. Announcements went out to shoppers in anticipation of the stars’ arrival. But it was not to be after it emerged the riders had stopped at Ludlow Golf Club instead.

Sue Morris, from Ludlow, waited in her car for five hours with daughter-in-law Tracy Jenkins. She said: “We’ve been here since 2.30pm to get Davina’s autograph for my son because he thinks she’s lovely.

“We’re a bit disappointed but we wish them luck.”
