Water giant set to unveil £3m scheme
Wednesday 3rd March 2010, 10:36AM GMT.
A £3 million scheme to replace Oswestry’s ageing water mains and sewers is to be unveiled by Severn Trent next week.
The massive project is set to cause disruption in the town centre with roadworks when it gets under way later this year.
The water giant says the scheme will dramatically cut the risk of leaks for its customers.
Officials will take the plans to the Guildhall on Monday and Tuesday.
The project will replace both water mains and sewers.
Paul Winterton, from Severn Trent Water, said: “The existing cast iron water pipes are beginning to show signs of wear and tear and are more prone to leaks and bursts, so we are going to replace them with modern, tough plastic pipes which will dramatically reduce the risk of future leaks.
“In addition, we need to replace parts of the sewer network in Oswestry so it makes sense to do it at the same time in an attempt to cause minimum disruption to the town.”
Representatives will also talk about the work the firm has been doing to improve the taste of the water since a series of drop-in sessions were held at the end of last year.
