Holden hopes to play a role – despite ban

Frustrated full-back Dean Holden has hailed Shrewsbury Town’s strength in depth – even though it could cost him a place in part of their promotion push.
Holden has been hit by a two game suspension after picking up his 10th caution of the season against Bournemouth on Saturday.
The former Falkirk defender cut a disappointed figure as the booking – which many observers felt was harsh – came in his first game back after a six week absence with a hamstring problem.
Holden concedes he may have to bide his time for a recall if the team are successful in his absence, but knows that quality in depth could be key for Shrewsbury’s chances of success.
“We need the whole squad coming in and doing a job when needed, and that is what has happened so far” said Holden.
“There will be injuries and suspensions for the rest of the season so whoever comes in has to do the job.
“Hopefully I will be able to get back in (to the team) in three weeks time.
“I will be giving everything in training because I don’t want to be sat on the sidelines, I want to be out there playing. I’m excited about the run-in and feel good about it.”
Holden will now have to sit out Saturday’s trip to Grimsby and the visit of leaders Rochdale on Saturday week.
And he has far from happy about some of the challenges for which he has been cautioned.
“Four or five of my bookings during the season have been harsh and I thought Saturday’s was a joke,” he added.
Dutch winger Benjamin van den Broek, as well as Jake Robinson and Kris Bright, were having a reserve team run-out at Sheffield United this afternoon.
- Victories for Notts County and Aldershot saw them close the gap on Town in League Two last night.
