Moose Jaw is still a city bursting with pride after successfully hosting the Saskatchewan Winter Games.
These games are a chance for the region’s budding young athletes to compete for gold, silver and bronze medals in a huge variety of sports.
It gives them the experience of participating in a big competition and the aim is to find Canada’s Olympic stars of the future.
The Games were especially emotive as they took place during the first week of the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, so as the youngsters took part in their chosen sport, they knew world-class athletes were feeling the same nerves and the same pressure to perform.
An opening ceremony was held in the city’s civic centre where the youth from the nine districts of Saskatchewan paraded on to the arena to music especially composed for the event by Moose Javian Jared Robinson.
When I spoke to him, he told me he wanted the athletes to feel like gladiators entering a colosseum, so he wrote a very inspiring piece of music.
