Vehicle is doused in petrol and set alight

Tuesday 2nd March 2010, 8:37AM GMT.

A car was doused in petrol before being set alight in the car park of a Telford club.

Firefighters were called to The Royal British Legion in Dawley on Sunday night after a Renault Espace people carrier was covered with petrol and set on fire.

The fire service said two youths were seen running from the car park after the fire was lit. A crew from Tweedale attended the club in Station Road just after 10.45pm. Watch manager lan Wilson said the car park was full at the time.

He said: “It appears that petrol was splashed over the interior and we were informed on arrival that two youths were seen leaving the scene wearing hoody tops.”

Chris Ammonds, spokesman for Telford police, said: “The fire was inside the car and no-one was evacuated from the club.”

Witnesses can call Telford police on 0300 3333000.
