Armed robbers ‘may be local’

Tuesday 2nd March 2010, 9:08AM GMT.

Two armed robbers who threatened terrified staff at a shop in Shropshire before fleeing with cash and cigarettes may live in the area, police today said.

The men were brandishing a baseball bat and a golf club and wore black bin liners over the lower half of their faces when they struck at the Co-op in Priorslee, Telford, on February 21. Police now believe the two men could be local and had been in the shop before.

Telford police spokesman Chris Ammonds said: “Police are now looking at the possibility that the offenders are local men as they appeared to have a knowledge of the shop and its layout.”

The man who approached the till is described as being about 20, 5ft 6in, slim and wearing a shell suit top and blue jeans.

The second man is described as being aged about 20, 6ft tall and wearing a big white bomber jacket and black jeans.

Call police on 0300 333 3000.
