Girl, 13, trapped in baby swing

Monday 1st March 2010, 10:52AM GMT.

A 13-year-old girl had to be freed by firefighters after getting wedged as she played on a baby swing in a Shropshire village.

Firefighters had to cut free the teenager, who has not been named, after she became trapped at the playground in Hodnet.

Rob Fox, leading firefighter at Hodnet Fire Station, said the girl, who had been playing with friends, was “embarrassed” but unhurt by her ordeal.

He said: “The girl had been playing on the baby swings but she got wedged in one as she tried to squeeze into it.

“She was in quite a lot of distress and pain so first we tried to lift her out.

“But she was still stuck so we had to cut the front away instead. She wasn’t injured, just a little embarrassed.

“I don’t think she’ll be playing on the baby swings again.”

It happened at the Brook Street playing field, Hodnet, just after 5pm yesterday. It took the firefighters about half an hour to free the girl.
