Shrews’ Disley wears ‘Beckham boot’

Shrewsbury Town’s Craig Disley was today facing up to a mixed prognosis as he comes to terms with fresh injury heartache.
A visit to the specialist yesterday confirmed that Disley didn’t break his ankle in Monday’s 1-1 draw with Rotherham, as was originally feared.
But he has suffered a ruptured ligament and tear of the capsule, which is likely to still leave him facing a minimum absence of eight weeks.
Disley, however, is refusing to give up hope of playing some part in the rest of Town’s campaign, which could be extended up until the end of May should they reach the play-offs.
“There’s no break which is really good news but there is a rupture in one of my ligaments which isn’t so good,” said the 28-year-old.
“I’m focusing on the positives and the fact there is no break is really good news for me and I won’t need an operation.
“I’ve got a ‘Beckham boot’ on like the one he had when he had the metatarsal problem and I’m on crutches at the moment.
“But I certainly haven’t give up hope of playing some part in the end of the season.
“If you do that, it becomes very hard but hopefully I can have a good rehabilitation and get myself back available to play some part in the end of the season.”
The latest injury woe puts the cap on a miserable season for Disley, who missed much of the first half of the campaign with a persistent knee problem.
And he admits an injury-ravaged season isn’t something he has become accustomed to during his career.
“I have been used to playing 40-odd games a season and I have never missed more than one or two games because of injury,” he added.
“It’s been massively frustrating but that’s the way it goes in football sometimes and you have to stay positive and look ahead to the future.”
