Mobile speed cameras plan on busy route
Friday 26th February 2010, 8:00AM GMT.
Motorists have been warned to watch out for mobile speed cameras on the “Rabbit Run” from next month. The Safer Roads Partnership in West Mercia announced today cameras would be used on the B4176.
The cameras will be on the road, which links Telford to Dudley, for a trial period of six months starting on March 15.
The warning comes after speed data revealed one in three drivers exceeded the 60mph speed limit on the road, with 15 per cent logged as driving above 66mph.
Safer Roads Partnership bosses said the cameras were being put in place following “significant levels of concern” from residents about the speed of traffic.
Rod Reynolds, head of the Safer Roads Partnership, said: “It is hoped that the commencement of speed enforcement will significantly reduce speeds and make the road safer for everyone.”
Shropshire Council transport chief, Councillor Martin Taylor-Smith, added: “This is a great initiative which will hopefully address local residents’ concerns and discourage people from speeding along this road.”
Two mobile enforcement sites have also recently been launched in Telford on Hadley Park Road and Haygate Road, Wellington.
The Safer Roads Partnership in West Mercia is made up of 13 partner agencies including Shropshire Council and West Mercia Police.
