Residents wait to get flooding cash decision

The High Street in Tenbury Wells engulfed by floodwater in April 2009Tenbury residents were today waiting to find out whether they are to receive extra cash to help safeguard their homes from flooding.

Malvern Hills District Council submitted the funding application to Defra for flood protection in Tenbury back in November 2009, as part of its ongoing commitment to alleviate flood issues within the town.

The application was to protect 30 domestic properties that are most at risk from flooding and have a one in 20-year flood risk.

The decision is due in early March.

Any funds are likely to come with the condition that the affected properties have independent assessments carried out to establish what flood protection measures would best suit the property.

Councillor Phil Grove, leader of MHDC, said that while this particular funding application only refers to those most high risk domestic properties, the council and its partners are working to provide opportunities in April for all residents in the area to discuss other flood protection options.
