Raid on town shop
Thursday 25th February 2010, 2:26PM GMT.
Two robbers, one armed with a baseball bat and another with a golf club, burst into a Telford store and threatened terrified staff before fleeing with cash and cigarettes.
The raiders were wearing black bin liners over the lower half of their faces when they struck at the Co-op in Priorslee.
Police said one of the men, who was carrying a baseball bat, approached the till while his accomplice waited by the door waving a golf club in a threatening manner.
Mother-of-two Nicola Windsor was working at the shop in Priorslee Avenue along with another member of staff when the incident happened at about 8.25pm on Sunday.
The 27-year-old was forced to empty both tills and handed over nearly £300 and 100 cigarettes to the pair.
Mrs Windsor, who lives in Telford, said: “It has left me terrified and I am still in shock to be honest – I haven’t slept since it happened and every time I leave the house I get the shakes.
“I am completely devastated at the moment but I won’t let this beat me and I am determined to help catch the people responsible.”
Mrs Windsor added that both she and her colleague feared they would get hurt if they didn’t do as they were asked.
Telford police spokesman Chris Ammonds said the two members of staff on duty had been left shaken after their ordeal and appealed for witnesses.
“Thankfully they were not harmed physically. They felt threatened and handed over the contents and didn’t fight back, they were very sensible,” he said.
“Investigating officers are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed this robbery, or anyone who may know the identity of the two individuals responsible for it.”
The man who approached the till is described as being around 20, about 5ft 6ins, of slim build and wearing a shell suit top and blue jeans.
The second man is described as being aged around 20, about 6ft and wearing a big white “bomber” jacket and black jeans.
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0300 333 3000.
