Plans focus on county land for new housing
Thursday 25th February 2010, 6:00PM GMT.
Thousands of new homes could be built in rural areas across Shropshire over the next 16 years and up to 700 acres of land freed up across the county for businesses to provide hundreds of much-needed jobs.
The ambitious plans are unveiled in a document which outlines where 27,500 homes earmarked for the county could be built by 2026 and how much new employment land should be allowed.
Housing officials today hailed the plans, outlined in a Shropshire Council report, which would provide much-needed homes.
And business leaders said the employment land would boost job hopes. Peter Bettis, of Shrewsbury Business Chamber, welcomed the figures claiming that the employment land could help to create “hundreds of jobs”.
The statistics show how many homes and how much employment land could be created in each part of the county up until 2026 and will soon go out to public consultation.
