County club will stay shut for now
Thursday 25th February 2010, 2:00PM GMT.

One of Shropshire’s biggest nightclubs, which has been closed for nearly six months following a disturbance at the venue, will remain closed for the immediate future, bosses said today.
Liquid and Diva, in Raven Meadows, Shrewsbury, has remained shut since October last year, and had only opened on several weekends before that, after a disturbance in June which led to the death of married father-of-two Darren Griffiths.
Peter Turpin, operations director for Luminar Leisure, which owns the club, today said there was no confirmed date for when it will reopen – but added that there are plans to open it again in the future.
He said: “Our venue in Shrewsbury remains closed. It is still our intention to re-open the premises although we have no immediate plans to do so, or a confirmed date of reopening.
“When the club closed we consulted with all of our staff and options were offered to them, including any available alternative positions.”
Mr Griffiths, 41, of Harmer Hill, near Shrewsbury, was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital after the incident at the club but died a short time later.
Doorman Neil Stokes, 22, of Spring Gardens, Ditherington, Shrewsbury, admitted the manslaughter of Mr Griffiths on June 29 when he appeared at Birmingham Crown Court this month.
Daryl Brown, of Severn Drive, Wellington, denied manslaughter. He is due to face trial on April 14 at Birmingham Crown Court.
