Ex-Shrews player fined over fracas

Friday 19th February 2010, 1:22PM GMT.

Luke RodgersFormer Shrewsbury Town star Luke Rodgers was today fined £4,000 after admitting being involved in a fracas at a bar.

Rodgers, 28, admitted affray following the incident at the Tantra bar in Victoria Street, Nottingham, on September 30.

He also admitted to escaping from lawful custody for running from the bar after being arrested by police called to the incident.

The striker, who lives in Tamworth, now plays for Notts County and had been celebrating with team-mates after scoring a hat-trick for the club.

He was fined £3,000 for the affray and £1,000 for escaping custody and ordered to pay £1,200 costs towards the prosecution during a hearing at Nottingham Crown Court today.

Michelle Hendrie, 29, of Birmingham, had a charge of affray in relation to the incident dropped because no evidence was offered by the prosecution.

Rodgers was a popular figure at Shrewsbury Town, breaking through the club’s youth system to become a first team regular.

He scored 73 goals in just under 200 first team appearances for the side in all competitions, including more than 20 goals in both the 2001/2 and 2002/3 seasons, scoring four hat-tricks along the way.

After helping Town back into the Football League in 2003/4 with 14 goals, his last season was injury-hit and he ended the campaign with just seven goals.

He moved to Crewe Alexandra at the start of the 2005/6, before spells with Port Vale and Yeovil. Rodgers made the switch to County in July.

pity he wasn’t an England international playing for one of the big clubs, he would’ve then got away scot free

why is this deemed newsworthy, the incident didnt happen in shropshire and he “moved” away some 5 years ago, i am sure there is more “local” newsworthy Shropshire news to be had or even national rather than some 2 bit no-body.

Ron, simple answer, apparently football is a life or death matter where STFC are concerned.
