Icy blast for drivers
Friday 19th February 2010, 11:35AM GMT.

The scene in Telford today. Not much snow, but plenty of ice.
Another blast of wintry weather caused chaos for motorists in Shropshire and Mid Wales today – with forecasters predicting yet more snow over the weekend.
Higher ground in the region took the brunt of the icy blast which saw as much as 6cms of snow fall overnight.
Many motorists also faced ice on untreated roads as temperatures plunged to -3C (26F) overnight.
Birmingham Airport’s runway was shut overnight due to the snow but was able to reopen at 6am today. Passengers endured delays and cancellations. A series of accidents led to road closures on some major routes.
Matt Dobson, of MeteoGroup, the Press Association’s weather company, said the rest of today would see a mixture of sunny spells and scattered wintry showers.
He went on: “It’s going to continue to be cold, especially at night, when there are likely to be quite severe frosts with temperatures down as low as -6C (21F).
“There could be bands of wintry showers across the country tomorrow, while on Sunday there is the risk of a heavy area of snow.”
