Traders’ hopes for £30,000 campaign

Thursday 18th February 2010, 8:09AM GMT.

shrewsbury-square1Shrewsbury’s retailers are set to get a spring boost thanks to a new £30,000 promotional programme.

The town’s retail group Shop in the Loop has been told a 10-day television advertising campaign has now been secured after a successful funding bid.

The group of traders is dedicated to promoting and developing trade in Shrewsbury locally, regionally and nationally.

It works closely with the Shrewsbury Business Chamber, Shrewsbury Tourism Association and Shropshire Council.

The money will be used to produce television adverts which will showcase the town’s traders and replace banners around the town.

The TV promotion, starting on March 24, will publicise the attractions of Shrewsbury to millions of people.

John Hall, chairman of Shop in the Loop, led the bid for £30,000 from the Central Area Partnership, backed by Shropshire Council.

He said: “The spring campaign will follow on from our Christmas adverts which worked extremely well.

“It is great news that another series of television advertisements will be screened. They should help to boost trade in Shrewsbury.”

Shop in the Loop is now looking for sponsorship by some key retailers for the campaign.

Mr Hall added: “We have such a lot to offer here in terms of shops, restaurants and other attractions and thankfully new businesses are continuing to open and expand.

“It is hoped that by running an even stronger promotional campaign in 2010 it will really draw people in and make them aware of what a fantastic place Shrewsbury is.”

Last year the group organised Independents’ Day on July 4 to celebrate retail offers by independent traders. All Shrewsbury traders were invited to join in with the event.

I remember that commercial. It just showed pictures of Next, River Island and Bank…….What town centres haven’t got them. Its the small independants that make the town different so how about showing them..
