Gunnell aims for World Championships

Shropshire’s Adrian Gunnell has enjoyed a welcome tonic ahead of his quest to reach snooker’s World Championships for the first time next month.
Gunnell reached the semi-finals of the latest Pro Challenge event to be held in Liverpool, earning £1,500 in the process.
The field included former world champions Ken Doherty and Graeme Dott, as well as rising star Judd Trump.
And Gunnell claimed some notable scalps along the way after receiving a first round bye following the withdrawal of Stephen Lee.
The Telford cueman beat Joe Swail 4-2, Andy Hicks 4-0 and Tony Drago 4-2. But his hopes of winning the tournament were ended in last night’s semi-final when he was edged out 5-4 by Barry Hawkins.
“I was disappointed to lose to Barry because I should have won 5-3,” said Gunnell. “I had a green to virtually win the match which jumped out of the middle pocket.
“But overall I have had a terrific few days and I feel as though I have got my enthusiasm back.”
Gunnell must win two matches at the start of March to reach the final stages of the World Championships.
