Council makes £7m park vow

Thursday 18th February 2010, 11:04AM GMT.

GalliersCouncil chiefs today vowed that Oswestry’s new £7 million Oswald Park leisure development and the £600,000 refurbishment of Market Drayton Market Hall will be completed.

And health bosses said they were in negotiations with one of the original tenderers for the £1.3 million redevelopment of Bishop’s Castle Community Hospital.

Shropshire Council made the vow over Oswald Park and the market hall after a creditors’ meeting heard yesterday that Frank Galliers Ltd, the firm which had been contracted to do the work, had gone into liquidation with debts of almost £10 million.

Since the firm hit financial trouble, work has stopped on projects in the county which the firm was involved in, but council chiefs said they were taking steps to ensure both projects would happen.
