Threat of damage claim in lights row
Wednesday 17th February 2010, 7:07PM GMT.

A Shropshire woman is threatening to take a town council to court after claiming her historic home was damaged as Christmas street lights were being taken down.
Cate Dixon of St John’s Street, in Bridgnorth, has accused Bridgnorth Town Council of being “negligent” and said she would sue the authority if she was not compensated.
She claims about £700 damage was caused to the bay window of her grade two listed home by supports for a cherry picker being used by a council contractor on January 9.
And Mrs Dixon claimed the council was at fault for not closing the narrow street while the work was done.
The former town councillor raised the issue during a public session at last night’s town council meeting.
She said: “It happened on a Saturday lunchtime, which was out of the contractual time and they were working on a pavement three metres wide.
“The town council is at fault and was negligent in not closing the street, which is one of the busiest and narrowest in Bridgnorth.”
The 62-year-old, who has has lived in the 16th century home with her family for about 18 years, said: “If the matter is not settled by the council’s insurers I will go to court.”
She said today: “The risk should have been assessed.”
Locum town clerk John Ward told the meeting that the claim would go to the council’s insurers.
