Views on boosting nightlife needed

People are being encouraged to have their say on an action plan to improve Shropshire’s night life.
It is felt that allowing shops and attractions to open later can have a healthy impact on the economy and the Shropshire Partnership is seeking views on how to make town centres more vibrant.
An action plan has been produced which sets out the priorities and highlights examples from across the country, including successful schemes such as opening art galleries in the evening and offering torchlit tours of town centres.
Shropshire Council cabinet member Gwilym Butler, whose portfolio includes partnership working, said: “It’s not just about opening lots of bars and restaurants.
“It’s about creating a balance between entertainment, ambience and safety, and making the town centre just as welcoming in the evening as it is during the day.”
People have until February 22 to comment on the plan.
Gavin Hogarth, who is co-ordinating the plan for the Shropshire Partnership, which includes a number of public and voluntary groups, said: “A successful night time economy needs accessibility, cleanliness, choice, ambience and safety, the same as the day time economy.
“Evidence suggests that town centres with lively streets and plenty of people in them make people feel safer.”
The action plan is available to view at www.shropshirepartnership.org.uk

Having lived in the USA for many years stores are always open late. Most people like to shop late as they work during the days it also bring energy and life to the town centre. Staff do not mind this as students like to work nights, Mums like the days.
I think it would be great to give Shrewsbury the same quality of food that you get in Ludlow. At present I can only think of one place I would go to again in town.
An annual food weekend with imported Michelin Star chefs would be good step in the right direction, using local produced food, hopfully they would love Shrewsbury and stay.
