Flying Dutchman Benjamin van den Broek is confident he can adjust to the rigours of English football with Shrewsbury Town – as he prepares to make his blue and amber bow.

The 22-year-old will be part of a strong reserve team line up heading to Burton tomorrow night after the winger signing to stay at the Prostar Stadium for the rest of the season.

Van den Broek is thrilled to achieved his ambition of playing in England, and is determined to make an impression on Shrewsbury as he joins their promotion push.

“I can’t wait to play in the reserves tomorrow and then hopefully I can be involved on Friday (with the first team squad at Bury),” he said.

“It’s a dream for everyone in Holland to come and play in England and I’m sure I can get used to the style.

“I had interest from seven Dutch clubs, a Norweigen club, a Danish club and a Belgian club.

“The Belgian club was Lierse and they were very serious.

“They offered me a lot of money – I’ve never seen so much money before but I decided to come to Shrewsbury.

“I wanted to play in England because everyone lives football. It’s just a way of life.”

Van den Broek came through the youth ranks at Dutch second division club Eindhoven before moving into the Premier Division with NAC Breda.

There he made two first-team appearances – both against Vitesse Arnhem – including a debut in front of 30,000.

But limited first team opportunities saw him drop down a level to join HFC Haarlem, where he scored 11 goals in 55 games before the club went bust.

Manager Paul Simpson is excited about the prospect of van den Broek making his first appearance in Shrewsbury colours. “It will be good to see him in a match situation,” said the Town boss.
